Cityscape / 1385 Broadway, New York, NY

Conte crayon and guache on paper
Circa: 1960
Size: 15 3/4" x 20" (sight) | 25 1/2" x 30" (frame)
Highly detailed architectural rendering of 1385 Broadway (and 1407 Broadway to the right) at the intersection of 38th & Broadway. Beautifully captured with details of shadows falling on the central building. Amazing to think all those windows were individually drawn and colored in (some showing a light on/off and some in shadow)! Has the feel of the "Mad Men" era all over it.

1385 Broadway is in New York's Garment District and was known as "the Bridal Building," however, now it is becoming home to major tech companies as Silicon Alley creeps up Broadway. 1407 Broadway was desinged by Ely Jacques Kahn, and is considered one of Kahn's great works. The New York Times described it as "dashingly inventive" where "strip windows punctuate the intelligent, angular structure, and the green brick and rich red window framing make it an oasis in the desert of early postwar architecture...."

Condition: Excellent in original frame.

Price: $1,800.00
